SRI’s and Benchmarks
September 28, 2008 — misskarnsEach year, your child’s abilities are assessed in a variety of ways. Below, please read the brief descriptions of three different types of assessments that are used in sixth grade.
SRI’s:
Dates conducted: October, January, and again in April (date varies from year to year)
Description: When working with students, it is important to know where they are in reading. SRI gives a lexile, which is a ballpark of the level of text students should be able to read. It does NOT mean the level at which they should be taught nor does it mean that it is their reading level. It means they should be able to read text that is at that lexile. Each time a student takes the SRI he/she should improve his/her score.
SRI Interactive utilizes computer-adaptive technology. As a student takes the test, the software automatically monitors the response to every question. If the student misses a question, the next question will be slightly easier. If the student answers correctly, the next question will be slightly harder. Therefore, the computer “adapts” to the student’s ability, adjusting the difficulty level of each question until an accurate score is achieved.
